Try Anjappar !
Anjappar is a restaurant chain that sells Chettinaad dishes. Chettinaad is a region of southern India very renowned for their local cuisine.
They have a stall at NUS (Prince George Park Residence), it was delicious. I rarely asked to shake the cook’s hand but this time I did because great food deserves great appreciation. It was one of those dishes that just make you crazy at every bite, literally. All I had was the perfect amount of chili for any European to not be disturbed by the usual mouth on fire we all have experienced at Indian stalls :
“Hello sir, is this spicy?”
“Spicy, no no, not spicy”
“Uh okay, no I mean hot”
“Uh?”
“HOT, HOT, IS there chili, you know..chili?”
“Ah chili, no no, not hot”
“You sure uh ?”
“Yes yes not hot, not spicy”
“Okay”
And then you eat, and you cry, not only because you’re mouth, throat and all your body is trying very hardly to handle the piece of burning hell you naively swallowed, but also because you’re gonna have to queue for 15 minutes to order something elsewhere, you just waisted a few bucks in this adventure you told yourself you’d never try again…but you just couldn’t resist challenging yourself again !
Anjappar is differently spicy. Just remove the bulk pieces of chili and you’ll be spared
My deepest thanks to Benoit Mortgat for showing me this excellent stall, as usual this guy is full of great things!

Youcef is blogging about makan. He is ready to become a Singapore citizen.
Je makan, donc je suis.
YB: Well, with no intended offense to the food I am exposed to (barely I think representative of Singaporean’s makan) the food here (let’s say at NUS) gets so boring so quickly that when you find something FINALLY new and tasty you feel like sharing it out loud to the whole world…hum…to the whole island. So no wonder all Singaporeans blog about food…

There’s also another Indian restaurant called “Zam Zam” which is located in front of Sultan Mosque, Arab Street. I always eat there. C’est très delicieux et aussi bon marché. Die die must try!
