Although buying and reading books may not be listed in the favourite hobbies in Singapore (although shopping for books could be), you may need, at some point of time, to purchase a book.
Forget about Amazon, there is no Amazon Singapore, besides so far I found no Amazon website that accepts to do international shipping to Singapore.
If you're a student, or know people from a university, you may want ...

There is 3 mobile phone networks in Singapore, by order of popularity :
Singtel
Starhub
M1
They are said to be equivalent, I haven't really been through a serious study of their prices, I was at Starhub and paid on average 36 S$ per month for ton of sms and quite a lot of phone calls.
Networks here haven't yet started selling bulk sms and minutes to subcontractors unlike they did in France ...

Currently looking forward to start some business activity in Singapore, I was seriously wondering how that is done AS A FOREIGNER of Singapore. Briefly, you either start a "business" (French equivalent: EURL), with one person only, your income is taxed based on Income Tax, or your "company" (French equivalent: SARL), in which at least two people are needed and 1Euro is enough, tax being based on Company Tax.

You may be French, European, American, or "Western", you're coming soon to Singapore, or you're here (already laaah) and you want to settle down and find a place to live in. I have been through this more than once and became an expert house-hunter in Singapore. Because of that, I get quite a number of requests regarding accommodation, which pushes me today to take 15 minutes and write ...

The first thing that shocked me a few weeks after my arrival in Singapore is how bureaucratic the whole system is. But to a certain extent that's fine when you come from a country like France.
The real problem is the lack of flexibility, or shall I go further and say creativity.
Typical example: Suppose you need to get something from a certain service. BE SURE that they will ...

Today I roughly compared the income and company tax in Singapore and in France.
France : Company Tax = 36% / Income Tax = 40% if you earn over 65K Euros / year.
Singapore : Company tax = 22% / Income Tax = 15% up to 60K Euros / year and the max is 20% if you earn more.
Consequence, as an individual entrepreuneur, you keep for yourself:
In France: (1-0.36)*(1-0.4) = ...

Having so far spent 3 months in Singapore, where I met a fairly important number of Chinese people from China and Singaporeans with Chinese origins, I have realised how peculiar for a European the family richness transfer is in Chinese-type cultures.
Basically, it is a common thing that the most established family wealth does not last longer than 3 generations. In the meantime, it seems to me that rich ...

"I am coming to Singapore soon, what stuff should I bring, and what can I leave home?" . I get every now and then this question from people and friends coming to Singapore and whom want to make sure they get just the necessary and do the right things before coming. Voila la liste des phrases, remarques, questions auxquelles vous aurez certainement droit si vous venez de la region Parisienne...ou si vous vous appelez Youcef Banouni.
"You don't need to dress formally, it's an unformal meeting."
"So you had a presentation today?"
Et alors celui-la il est collector : "Excuse me I am looking for the size M of these pants". :)
Eh oui, bien s'habiller au quotidien (ou essayer de) c'est réservé ...
